Card Debt Statistics

The Association of Payment Clearing Services (APACS) has been looking at patterns and trends in the way people manage their credit card accounts. In prticular they looked at the way in which people clear their accounts.

They group people into three categories. Thise who make minimum repayment amounts, those who make more that the minimum payment but do not clear their debt and those who always clear the whole amount outstanding.

By far the biggest group was those who cleared their credit cards, with 59% falling into that category.

TThey witnessed a trend for people to use debit cards more often now than was the case earlier, which shows more responsibility being taken with debt.

However Experian say that 9% of credit card holders risk getting into serious debt by using other accounts or forms of debt to fund credit card repayments.
